One of the new big traditions here at GCDS is Color Wars. Color Wars is a tradition that started within the Greenwich Country Day high school community last year in April.  Former Student Body President Sam who founded the event, talked about his intentions/purpose for Color Wars, “I think it is a great way to keep the school together, it is basically an excuse to play sports all day and bond as a community at the end of the year.” Color wars is a field day divided into three teams filled with activities like capture the flag, spikeball, trivia, etc. Color Wars is a great way to end the school year with some team and school spirit.

Leading up to the event, Jay, 11th grader, said about the Color Wars events: “I am just really excited to get out there and compete with my classmates. I remember last year I had a tough defeat at the tug of war competition, [and I’m] hoping for some redemption this year, and we’re gonna take it all; we’re gonna take home the trophy and we’re gonna have a lot of fun doing it.”

Former Student Body President Jackson described some of the issues of Color Wars last year, particularly the fact that some students left school assuming the day was over and they did not have to attend the activities. “A lot of people took Color Wars as just a half-day to leave school which kinda didn’t make it as fun because some people were torn between either going to Color Wars or just to leave school. [The] thing is, people make it fun when people come to it, Color Wars could be a lot more fun this year”

Ms. Wood, who oversees the student government, says “There is something for everyone participating in Color Wars, and it is great when everyone gets in the spirit of it.”

Color Wars is a great way to end a rigorous academic year that leaves students feeling nostalgic about activities they participated in from middle school.

Now that Color Wars has ended, here is what some of the student body had to say about the event. Luke, a 9th Grader, said “I viewed Color Wars as a replacement for field day from the Middle School, it was really fun and I think it should stay for next year.”

Cooper, 10th Grader, said “I had a great experience with Color Wars, I thought it was a great time to get closer with some of your classmates that aren’t just in your grade but in other grades.”

On Wednesday during Town Hall, former Student Body President Jackson Castelli declared the official winners of the three day long Color Wars. The Orange team won first place while the Black team finished second and the White team placed third.
