Breakfast is Back at GCDS!

The dining hall staff announced a week before its opening on October 4th that breakfast, the most important meal of the day, would be making its return to the GCDS Upper School. Breakfast is scheduled to run from 7:15 until 8:20 am, leaving students with ample time to meet with teachers, work out, or simply arrive late and still be able to eat.

Originally introduced in 2019, the school’s first year as a high school, breakfast was a huge hit. The pancake flavors offered would change each day – the rotation consisted of chocolate chips, blueberries, strawberries, and bananas.

Unfortunately, this popular early-morning routine was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that some restrictions have been lifted and the Dining Hall has been refurbished, students are eager to get the full experience. Denisa, a current junior, stated, “I  remember having team breakfasts and my favorite item on the menu was the chocolate chip pancakes”. Hopefully, this is something that will be making a return as well. As Denisa mentioned, athletes would sit as a team on game days.

In an attempt to learn more about what athletes can expect from the breakfast menu, Gregory Stein, Head Chef, informed “I’m bringing in Hudson Valley Milk, and specifically chocolate milk. Chocolate milk is the best thing you can drink after a workout and I have a feeling the athletics are going to gravitate towards that.” Mr. Stein’s prediction has already proven correct, as many sports teams have early morning practices and weight training.

On an exclusive tour, Mr. Stein provided us with a sneak peek of how breakfast and lunch will function with the renovated kitchen. Check out the tour in this video.
