After a year of COVID and no intercession, there’s a trip for Spanish students to look forward to next year. In the 2021/22 school year, there will be a trip to Antigua, Guatemala during intersession. This trip is two and a half weeks, and is available for those who are in Spanish 4 and above who “want to take their Spanish to the next level”. The trip will also count towards the World Language Diploma as an immersion experience for those participating.

For those who have signed up, you can look forward to living with a family during your stay, going to intensive language classes in the morning, eating lunch, and heading back home or doing other activities during the evening. During the weekends, there will be fun activities such as visiting a lake, hiking a volcano, and seeing Mayan ruins.

This trip will also have a focus on culture. Antigua is a very cultural city, and those interested in learning more about its rich history will love the trip. It has lots of both Mayan and Spanish heritage which it is famous for, and which you can try in the cuisine.

Students will also be working with other high schoolers from Antigua Green School on sustainability-focused projects. The school is located on a coffee farm and is a bilingual Cambridge International School. Antigua Green School will be working with GCDS prior to the trip in order to plan out a project involving sustainability, which is one of the school’s main focuses, and is what those attending the trip will complete.
