UFC 257 In Review

On Saturday night, January 23rd, two lightweight fighters took to The Octagon in a rematch on UFC 257 main event in Abu Dhabi. Dustin Poirier sought revenge in a sequel fight after being knocked out in under 2 minutes by one of the biggest fighters in the UFC, Connor McGregor. Both fighters weighed in at 155 into the lightweight division at 32 years of age.

Underdog Dustin Poirier was able to knock out Connor Mcgregor halfway through the second round using a strong calf kick which enabled Poirier to push McGregor up to the side of the cage and hit him with a series of punches. McGregor’s knockout was a shock to many UFC fans who expected another victory from him. Poirier stated at the end of the fight that “I’m happy, but I’m not surprised, I put in the work. We’re 1-1 now. Maybe we have to do it again”. This being a sequel fight, is likely to be followed by a third fight. Both fighters seem up to the possibility of a rematch.

This fight was significant like any other sporting event where the underdog takes a win. If the third fight does get announced, it will have an even bigger following than the previous fight.
